Diary

I don’t know how many of you have tried keeping a diary or writing one. I used to write a diary continuously for a few years when I was in school and college. It is really helpful when you feel all alone and lost among your loved ones. The diary helped me go through the painful days in Bangalore (pursuing my degree) when I was too homesick. Writing a diary helps us to get a clear direction when we are facing a dilemma in life because as we write down on a paper our mind opens up and what we would have never told out aloud comes out in paper.

The diary is the best friend you can have as it listen to you patiently the only drawback being that this friend never speaks back to you which can get on your nerves sometimes (personal experience). My personal experience of writing a diary has been great I would still love to keep a diary given I have the time to write into it. Even today when I am depressed or in a dilemma writing it down on a piece of paper not necessarily in a diary has proved beneficial in those frame of mind.

Another benefit of the diary is that we can revisit the memories that we must have long forgotten. You revisit the things that you did, you revisit the frame of mind you had on that particular day 5 or 6 years back it is magical. When I go through my diary I go back to the days of fun I had at school the outings and the small incidents at school or college that I have long forgotten but when read through brings back those vivid memory.

The diary also help us in analyzing our own behavior when I go through my old diaries I find certain characteristics about myself which I am not aware of. I feel as though I am rediscovering myself when I go through the diary.

My grandfather (Dad’s Dad) has been writing diaries almost his whole lifetime and that too daily. He is over 95 years of age and still continues to keep a dairy. When we the grandchildren get together we often sneak into his old diaries to confirm birthdays of aunt uncles and other relatives.

The best known diary all around the world is a diary by a young German girl Anne Frank who died during the reign of the Nazi’s but she still continues to live through her diary. Her diary is a best seller which has been converted into many languages and is read by millions it is known as “Anne Frank - Diary of a Young Girl”.
